A while ago, I had to misfortune of hearing the terrible truth that Fiora has never played, nor even HEARD OF Banjo-Kazooie! It is my mission to right this wrong!

It is, without a doubt, my absolute, #1 most favorite game on the Nintendo 64. More than Super Mario 64, more than The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, even more so than Conker's Bad Fur Day (if at least just barely)!

@Fusion Kirby: Ugh. The idea of taking an innovative classic artful platformer and turning into a generic beat-em-up with rather unappealing-looking characters out being goofballs through the people behind Call of Duty, puffing out theirs chests with technology that's already been used (in an even better, more advanced form, by the way) while they act like this is the first time it has even been used just doesn't appeal to me.

Seriously, Activision. We've already had games where people on PC can challenge someone on PS3. You're not the first to have such compatibility. And you only do it with memory storage.

@Fiora Aroura: "20th Century"? That's precisely what I'm doing! Ahh... Old games... Frogger, Master Quest, Gex, Rayman, Yar's Revenge, Conker...

*old man raspy voice*

Y'all darn kids are all so spoiled! Why, back in mah, day, we didn't have save systems. We had Continues! If you got a Game Over, you had to start all the way back at the beginning! In fact, we had these things called "Lives". You could only die a few times 'till y'all got one of these Game Overs! You were lucky if you had a password system like in Army Men: Sarges Heroes! That's what we had before this cockamamie "Call of Duty" thing started trampin' about!

And our games were harder and longer! And more complete and with more secrets! Why, these days, people publish their games before they've worked out most of them darn bugs! They think they can make it up with their "DLC" and their "patches"!

And that dang realism! Why, back in my day, we didn't have automatic teleporters and jetpacks. As a matter of fact, when we had to go to school, we had to trek through buildings full of ninjas and spike balls!

(I never realized 18 could feel so old!)

That also must mean we grew up with the same games of the time. I wonder why you stayed with the old cheesy games while I advanced up to Skyrim and Halo Reach (which I played all the way through last night X) ) etc...

So you're an legal adult now. Swell. I can't wait to be an adult.

@Fiora Aroura: Somehow, I didn't get into the "mainstream" kind of stuff. Let's see. What games did I grow up with?

Frogger (1997)
Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge
Toy Story 2 Action Game
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
Break-Out (2000)
Pac-Man: Adventures in Time
Ms. Pac-Man: Quest for the Golden Maze
The Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions
Roller Coaster Tycoon (with Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes expansion packs)
Tarzan Action Game
Lionel Train Town
The Robot Club

With other people... (Mostly Multiplayer)

Mario Kart 64 (first game I ever played)
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Kirby Airide
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Donkey Kong 64
Banjo-Kazooie (a little bit)

As for stuff that I have been enjoying quite recently or am very interested in trying...(to show you I'm not just sticking with cheesy stuff)

Half-Life
Team Fortress
inFAMOUS
[Prototype]
Batman: Arkham Asylum/City
Limbo
Assasin's Creed
BioShock
Mirror's Edge
Dead Space
Rocket Knight
Earthworm Jim (Ok, maybe a bit cheesy!)
Xotic
Q.U.B.E.
Crysis
Deus Ex
Rayman
Gex
AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity
Portal

Oh, yes! Seriously, Fiora. I think you would LOVE Portal! I think most of you guys might like it!

Lugbzurg,

February 1st, 2012, 10:04 pm

Reply

@Fiora Aroura: It was a real game. A real game called "Dinosaur Planet". However, when Miyamoto commented that Sabre looked like Fox, everyone at Nintendo was all like "DUDE! Let's make this into a StarFox game even though there's nothing remotely StarFox-related about it!"

And, thus, they changed some of the characters, turned the plot around completely, moved it the GameCube and, unfortunately, due to Nintendo's tampering, had to remove a LOT of the game's originally-intended features.

Who knows? Maybe THIS would have ended up actually making sense!

Lugbzurg,

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I already said it was Dinosaur Planet. That's what it would have ended up being (on the Nintendo 64), but Nintendo thought that Sabre looked vaguely like Fox, so, they forced Rareware to change a lot, which caused other features to never make it.

And, yes... I wanna see Fiora playing Conker's Bad Fur Day. That game is incredible. After over ten years, there has still never been a game that came anywhere close to what that one did.

It's my SECOND-favorite Nintendo 64 game. Just behind Banjo-Kazooie, but it's extremely close.

I honestly wouldn't doubt a "moment" or two of the Panther King from you.

There's a lot to like about this game. It's an innovative platformer in which you'll be adapting to a lot of different types of situations as a squirrel trying to get home, collecting cash and standing on Context-Sensitive pads. Plus, I think you might become completely hooked by the time you go inside the poo mountain. Don't ask why. You'll know when you see it.

You want strong characters and lots and lots of detail? Play Conker's Bad Fur Day.

(Especially, from that ending... Seriously, that was one of the best, most important and significant endings I have seen in any game.) Trust me. I've played both of these games through and through. I know you. We all do. I know what you've come to enjoy. I know for certain you will adore these titles. Wouldn't the rest of you who've played these games agree?

It's smooth, it's innovative, it's hilarious, it's talkative, it's fourth-wall-breaking, it's innovative, it was Rareware's one last hurrah on the Nintendo 64.
